Chocolate Halfway Bars

makes a 8 X12 pan1. mix together:
1/2 cup shortening (but it's better with butter)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2. add
1 egg yolk (save the egg white for later)
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp. bkg powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1 1/2 tsp. water
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Pat all this into greased 8 X 12 pan. Top with 12 oz. chocolate chip (milk choc. or semi-sweet)3. Topping:2 egg whites and 1/2 cup brown sugar, beater stiff. 4. Spread topping over chocolate chips and bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.
